Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. As a young girl, she moved to Oxfordshire where she studied at the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma realized that she wanted to be an actor and for a number of years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught the art of acting and dancing. As part of a school production and an Stagecoach Production, Emma was her role as lead actress at 10, and acted. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was published in 1999. Emma was discovered through Emma's Oxford Theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after the eight auditions that she'd been picked for these roles. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's debut film came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and became the top-grossing movie of the year 2001. The film has been praised by critics for its film as well as the performances by the three principal young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her performance. In the following days, Emma was shortlisted for five prizes for her work in the film and was awarded the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film.
